WHEN IS IT NECESSARY TO INVOLVE THE OCP 'CRITICAL INCIDENT RESPONSE TEAM'?

OCP should be contacted with regard to an event that could be emotionally challenging for one, some or all employees. Such events include an occurrence within the workplace such as:

  • An assault
  • A robbery
  • The sudden death of an individual by accident or natural cause on or off-site
  • Changes to sense of job security linked with possible redundancy or closure

Events such as these generally involve liaison with people outside of the workplace for whom there are no clear lines of authority. Of particular note are family members and the media.

Any event could be experienced as being traumatic for some. Not all events will be traumatic for all.

An event may trigger a ‘Crisis’ – “an acute emotional reaction to a powerful stimulus or demand”.
